The purpose of this essay is to find out what the purpose of music videos are.
The first music video was for the song bohemian rhapsody by queen, the purpose of a music video is primarily to make more money, but I have heard some people talk about music videos for their shock factors in the past… for example rudimental’s song waiting all night I’ve heard multiple people speaking about people getting run over by a truck which is featured in this music video, which worked because I then watched the music video in dis-belief. So overall music videos are for money.
The promotion of the artists is done through the music video itself, not only because we see the band playing live music, but also because they might have used their own logo on their drums or t-shirts. On television the name of the song is displayed on the bottom of the screen somewhere showing the artists name the album name and the song name, occasionally the record label will have put their name on their also, pushing their name, (drive thru records etc.) in some of the bigger names (lady gaga) she has had the producers name also put on the video, the bigger the producer/director the better connections e.g. the “pussy wagon” from kill bill appears in lady Gaga’s music video.
Producers market artists in different ways, for example RAGC, is portrayed in a more softer approach, where as other bands like slayer are portrayed a much more savage image, this is done to attract a much different demographic for different genres of music, this can make you more money in the long run, as you can create a fashion statement or even attract more bands to come and make the same genre of music and include them on your record label.
Because you are not just hearing your favourite bands you are also seeing them, this will throw more money toward the record labels and music tv stations such as ‘scuzz’ and kerrang etc. because every time a song is played the band receives royalties, so if you are also showing music videos and people are seeing them they will get double the amount of royalties.
Bands can make loads of more money by their material be accessed, by the internet by soundcloud, bandcamp, youtube, deezer, spotify, and itunes, and all of these are available through mobile internet, obviously if you had a radio station you can download and play these songs on it. More platforms means more potential revenue for the bands. The problems with all of this are, piracy, everythings easier and cheaper to get these days off the internet, the more stuff there is online on these sites, the more you have to sift through and find what you were looking for. Big names may also be put first.
Synergy is when two or companies make deals to sell more products and make more money. With the market you can pay to get your act involved with another business (Disney) (Hannah Montana) for example Hannah Montana which is now owned by a Disney corporation will contract out their trademark for use with other companies for use with merchandising. For example Hannah Montana birthday cakes and lampshades.
Music videos are massively popular because more and more people want to see their favourite bands ideas behind stuff, etc. not only that but sometimes you get some live footage, which allows you to see your favourite bands footage on stage. Not only this, but youtube has become a hive for upcoming musicians such as rebbeca black and Justin beiber and OK GO!

The Commissioning Process
Commissioning editors identify media products to publish in
order to build up a publisher list they commission work by getting authors book
proposals. Their role is like that of a buyer. They also ensure authors deliver
typescripts to a specification and on time.
Page lock-down is when the script is in the process of being filmed and no more copies or re-writes to be handed in. changes can be made in certain circumstances but the whole script is not to be changed just one page.
The role is like a book/magazine publisher. In magazine
publishing, commissioning editors commission writers to produce articles and
features. In the media industry (making films etc.) they have the final say on
what will and what will not be published. They can also make changes in
production
A producer’s role is to get a larger crew together, in order
to create the finish product
A director’s role in the media industry is to make or
suggest changes to the script; they are more likely to get their own way rather
than the writers.
The script editors’ job role in all of this, their job is to
suggest and make small changes to the script.
The agent is someone who will find work for other writers,
and actors. They typically get ten per cent of their contracts wage.
A writer will be writing the script for the show, play,
book, magazine etc.
A corporation is somebody who I can get work from, or even
submit work to hopefully get some work.
Independent production companies are somewhat smaller than
other bigger companies such as the BBC; friendships can blossom from work
that’s as close as the independent production companies. They typically have to
hire more people from either freelance areas or bigger companies, costing them
more money.
Independent directors or producers tend to just do the same
jobs as normal directors and producers but on their own… they might multi task
Organisations We love the craft and creativity of great
scripts and consider it a true honour to work with writers to help hone their
vision and bring the characters and conflicts they have imagined to the
screen. (http://www.scriptfactory.co.uk/about/)
Competitions the winner will receive a six-month mentoring
and development package with Hayley McKenzie from Script Angel. The package
includes feedback on one project from outline to polished script. Plus
development to treatment stage on a further three projects over the same
six-month period. The mentoring period begins during the London Screenwriters
Festival. Mentoring can take place over Skype should you live too far away from
Script Angel / London. (http://www.londonscreenwritersfestival.com/london-screenwriters-six-month-mentoring-competition/#sthash.sp3LbmT8.dpuf)
not only this but in the hope to be recognised and make it big in the media
industry
Pre-production planning writers may have to make amendments
to their script, and liaise with the story board artists, and be present for
the re-writing of the scripts.
Script editing writers at this point can only suggest
changes to their script; they are not likely to get what they want at this
point. More writers may have to be hired if changes are to be made,
Director or producer involvement this is primarily will just
be if they want changes to be made and if they want any more writers involved.
Shooting script production this is when you start to film
the script productionPage lock-down is when the script is in the process of being filmed and no more copies or re-writes to be handed in. changes can be made in certain circumstances but the whole script is not to be changed just one page.
Adjustment during shooting stage
Once this stage occurs, there will be no more rewrites or
edits, the script will be published and handed to the department. If any scenes
do need to be rewritten and changed, locking the pages allows this to be easily
tracked, so it keeps the revised and unrevised pages separate which will show
the difference between the original script and the changes.
As a writer you have to manage your time wisely. Hours are
not fixed and you may go several days, weeks, or months without writing
anything. However, they may then go without sleep in order to meet tight dead
lines. Most writers are freelance there fore their hours are really variable
·
Copy wright/plagiarism – this is when somebody
copies you, copywright is put in place to stop this. Writers can be taken to
court if they are found to be plagiarising
·
Censorship – this is when you would be careful
about the content of which you are producing, for the T.V., the watershed is
put in place after 9pm meaning no offensive material will be shown before 9.
·
Liable – screen writers have to be very careful
of publishing lies incase they then become liable to be sued.

I have
chosen this script for the sole purpose of the single male detective, this is
relevant to my proposed script idea, as the detective in my production is also
a single male ‘detective’
I have chose
this script because of the inner city setting, mine will be set inside an inner
city area, obviously not London, but Norwich.
